LUDDITE'S RETROCHALLENGE BLOG: WINTER WARM-UP 2009 |
Jan.20 | Worser and Worser... Okay, so things are on a downward spiral here... On the RetroBBS Gavo, greatly overestimating my abilities, suggested I try setting up a gateway computer running TCPSER, which would essentially allow clients to connect via telnet but fool the Apple II into thinking it was talking to a modem. It's a great idea, but sadly it's a little beyond me at this point. To be quite honest, I haven't even got past installing TCPSER on my Mac as it requires a little more command line diddling than I have the stomach for... I guess it's the long-time Mac user in me that just wants to click on the "install" button rather than having to muck with the innards of the thing. Sad, I know, but that's how it is... HOWEVER... discouraged as I may be at this point, I haven't given up. I'm going to give this TCPSER two coats of looking at, and if trashing my Mac is the worst thing that can happen, so be it -- it's at least better than being hacked to death with a machete. |
